LoSo (Lower South End)

LoSo is the informal name locals and marketers have given to the stretch of South Boulevard south of the district's original core, closer to the Woodlawn area. It developed later than the Rail Trail Core and Design District, and much of its identity is still being written as former warehouses, self-storage lots, and light-industrial parcels get redeveloped.

Newer apartment communities and a scattering of breweries and restaurants have moved in, often taking advantage of larger, cheaper parcels than are available further north. The area still has visible gaps — surface lots, low-slung commercial buildings, and stretches without much street life — that mark it as a work in progress rather than a finished district.

LoSo's appeal has largely been price and space: newer construction here has, at times, offered larger floor plans or lower price points than comparable buildings closer to the Rail Trail. That gap has narrowed as development has caught up, but the area still reads as slightly less finished and slightly more affordable.

Transit access is thinner here than further north; the light rail's southern stations serve the area, but daily life leans more on driving or biking than in the Rail Trail Core.
